Control Your Car With Your Cell Phone

Location.  Typically, the dash panel below the steering wheel, driver's side kick panel and the driver's running board panel will need to be removed to access the vehicle's wiring.  Mount the GSM-300 components under the dash on the drivers side.  Wire ties are an easy way to fasten the parts in place.  Insure the components are tight and cannot be rattled.  Do not mount under the hood where moisture is a problem.  The only component to go under the hood will be the siren.  Do not mount the components near moving parts or a heat source.

Wiring.  Most of the car wiring you will be connecting to is in the ignition harness.  This harness is usually taped or covered with a nylon sleeve.  Strip away about six inches of the covering as close as possible to the ignition switch.

Identification.  Using your vehicle's wiring list and the instruction manual (provided), locate and tag each of the wires required for installation.  There are places on the manual drawings to record the wire color.  Knowing the exact location of each wire helps plan the system wire routing.

Tools Required.  A pair of wire strippers, a DC voltmeter (or test lamp) and a soldering iron.

Connections.  We prefer solder connections which are permanent.  Wire nuts and mechanical fasteners are easier to use but may become loose over a period of time.
